Scandi Chic Meets the Magic City: Toteme’s Minimalist Vision Arrives in Miami

    mary's room

Swedish luxury label Toteme has officially established a presence in South Florida with the opening of its debut Miami boutique at Bal Harbour Shops. This expansion marks a pivotal moment for the brand, coinciding with its upcoming venture into menswear, which is set to include ready-to-wear, footwear, and accessories launching this August.

The Architectural Vision: Where Scandinavia Meets Miami

Spanning 1,010 square feet on a single level, the boutique is a collaborative masterpiece between Toteme’s founders, Elin Kling and Karl Lindman, and their long-term architectural partners, Halleroed. The design philosophy centers on a dialogue between Swedish minimalism and Floridian modernism. The interior reflects the natural landscape through a sophisticated Scandinavian lens, creating a space that feels both precise and grounded.

The aesthetic is defined by a careful selection of materials and archival pieces. The front room is anchored by Liljevalchs sofas—a Josef Frank design for Svenskt Tenn—custom-upholstered in a 1930s “Celotocaulis” print featuring oversized flora and winding stems. Enhancing the botanical theme, 18th-century engravings are displayed in frames crafted from hand-woven banana leaves. Throughout the store, tactile elements like woven rattan shelving and leather surfaces contrast with the sleekness of mirror-polished stainless steel rails and heritage-inspired wardrobe trunk displays.

Curated Collections and Strategic Retail Expansion

The Miami location currently houses Toteme’s Pre-Fall 2026 collection, offering a comprehensive range of women’s ready-to-wear, handbags, jewelry, footwear, and swimwear. While the store does not launch with location-exclusive pieces, the founders have indicated that city-specific designs remain a consideration for the future.

Regarding the brand’s highly anticipated expansion into menswear, the Bal Harbour location will maintain a focus on the women’s category for its initial phase. The upcoming men’s collection is slated for a concentrated release in flagship territories, specifically the Mercer Street and Madison Avenue stores in New York, as well as the Melrose and South Coast Plaza locations in California.

Conclusion: A New Chapter in Luxury Minimalism

Toteme’s entry into the Miami market at Bal Harbour Shops signifies a strategic integration of the brand’s heritage into a city with a powerful visual identity. By blending natural textures and archival Swedish design with the vibrant energy of Florida, the brand continues to refine its global retail footprint. This opening reinforces Toteme’s commitment to creating physical spaces that do more than just house products; they foster a genuine conversation with their environment.
