Rob Rausch Reveals the Truth Behind Our Most Provocative Questions on Betrayal

    TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle

Get ready for a wild ride in the world of reality television. Rob Rausch, a standout from “Love Island,” has taken center stage on season four of “The Traitors.” Known for his charm and cunning, he once claimed, “Basically, I’m a toxic gaslighter, but I’m hot enough that it doesn’t matter,” during a chat with Alex Cooper. Rausch fully embraces the role of the villain, cleverly manipulating the game and the players. As much as we know we should be wary of him, there’s something magnetic that makes us root for him.

Each episode reveals Rausch forging seemingly real connections with his teammates, crafting clever strategies, and even sharing emotional moments over banishments. Naturally, we had burning questions for him. In an exclusive conversation, we dived into everything from his unique fast-food habits to the viral status of his overalls while discussing Sonic’s “Break Up with Your Burger” campaign, centered around the launch of the All-American Smasher Meal.

When it comes to food, Rausch embodies the spirit of generosity. He believes in the importance of sharing. “I’m definitely a big sharer,” he tells Popsugar. “It’s fun to get various dishes and let everyone sample a bit. It’s all about spreading the joy.”

We couldn’t resist asking about that infamous salmon breakfast, which loyal “Traitors” fans know has taken on a life of its own. Cast members often seem more focused on securing salmon than strategizing about the previous night’s eliminations. Rausch explains the cult-like following of the salmon: “It was the best item available and quite limited. If you snagged it first, you had a prized possession. It transformed into a status symbol—having salmon meant you were untouchable that day.”

“Of course I want to wear my overalls, but I didn’t bring them.”

Despite the group’s obsession with salmon, Rausch caught everyone’s attention by entering the breakfast room in his signature overalls and no shirt. He shared the story of how he ended up in them, revealing that he initially hesitated to bring any. “I honestly didn’t pack any,” Rausch admits. “I thought they wouldn’t allow them, but when they asked if I wanted to wear them, I jumped at the chance.”

Playing a game that carries a potential prize of $250,000 is intense. Rausch is no stranger to high-pressure situations. Drawing from his experience on “Love Island,” he remarks, “It helped me navigate intense emotions. You bond with everyone, and it becomes hard to detach from those feelings.”

Ultimately, Rausch is focused on winning. He understands the need to compartmentalize emotions while competing. “Coming out of ‘Love Island’ made me realize that it isn’t real life; it’s a controlled environment. Knowing that going into ‘Traitors’ kept me grounded. This game is about strategy. Try not to let emotions cloud your judgment, although it’s a challenge.”

This struggle was visible when Rausch bonded with “Traitors” castmate Ron Funches. They connected over their introverted natures, leading Rausch to vote for the banishment of another traitor, Lisa Rinna, to protect Funches. He shared in a confessional that, as someone who often felt like an outsider, he empathized with the isolation that can plague introverts in social gatherings.

“I definitely still feel that way. As someone who’s introverted, being surrounded by extroverts can be overwhelming. Sometimes, it feels like being alone in a crowded room,” Rausch says. “Anyone who has faced similar struggles will find that relatable. But pushing through those moments is worth it; you never know when you might click with someone new.”
